Designing a Hamptons-Style Beach House
Timeless, fresh, relaxing
As discussed in the Renovation & Extension post, we have an exciting project in the pipeline in Burraneer. We have received a sneak peek of the architectural plans for our Hamptons inspired beach house from the Güd Studio.
As shown in the featured image, the home exudes coastal style with a raked, lining board ceiling, exposed rafters, stone fireplace feature, integrated outdoor areas, natural timbers and stones, fresh white interiors, shutter window and balcony detailing and highlight windows.
We have an innovative idea for constructing this ceiling, similar to the concept we used at The Palm House. Whilst we love the look of a traditional raked ceiling, sometimes the design is not practical, as it’s difficult to house important building elements such as insulation, lighting, ducting, etc. We plan to create a false raked ceiling, slightly lower than the real thing. It will look like the real thing, with exposed beam detailing and all, but it will allow for a small cavity between the roof and ceiling, enough to include adequate insulation and house downlights, etc.
We can’t wait to see the final plans and proceed through the Development Application Process at the Sutherland Shire Council. Stay tuned to our blog for further updates and designs of our dream Hamptons Beach House.
